Medical Insurance

All students attending Royal Canadian Institute of Technology (Domestic and International Students) are required to have valid Medical Insurance.

Domestic Students:

All students from Canada (Citizens or Permanent Residents) must have a valid Medical Insurance Card for the province of their residence. Students from British Columbia must have BC Medical Plan in effect. Students from other provinces must either maintain their medical insurance from that province, or transfer to the BC Medical Plan.

International Students:

It is advisable to purchase your travel and visitor’s insurance before you leave your home country. If you arrive in Canada without insurance Royal Canadian Institute of Technology can assist you with obtaining low-cost travellers/visitors insurance from a Canadian health insurance company.

If your length of study (for those students on a Student Visa) is 6 months or more, then you only need travellers insurance for 3 months. The staff at Royal Canadian Institute of Technology will assist you in applying for BC Medical Insurance when you arrive.  It takes 3 months to be approved and accepted to the BC  Medical Plan.

** Travellers Insurance plans often do not offer sufficient coverage for major illness or injuries.  Try to obtain sufficient insurance coverage to ensure you are not left with a huge medical bill.
