The one-year certificate program was designed to upgrade foreign-trained nurses’ skills to meet Canadian standards in nursing and to satisfy the language proficiency required for a Registered Nurse in Canada in order to take the Canadian RN Licensure exam and to achieve a passing grade. The program provides a comprehensive overview of the role of the Registered Nurses in Canada and covers the following topics and concepts relevant for the preparation to the RN Licensure exam: Canadian healthcare system; nursing values and ethics; health assessment and physical examination; clients with special needs; caring through the life span; family and community care; nursing informatics; pediatrics; obstetrics; acute and rehabilitation care; mental health disorders and others. The students will gain a clear understanding of the professional responsibilities and standards of nursing practices in Canada.
The program will also provide students with strategies and tools vital to their success on the RN Licensure exam. Review of frequently tested nursing content and exam-style questions while strengthening students’ critical thinking skills will be provided. RCIT will give students the tools specifically geared to internationally educated nurses, focusing on review of practice tests with explanations.
After completion of one-year program foreign trained nurses will be able to meet Canadian standards in nursing and to satisfy the language proficiency required for a Registered Nurse in Canada in order to take the Canadian RN Licensure exam and to achieve a passing grade. It will open doors for foreign trained nurses to a huge job market. They will be much better paid in their own countries working as Registered Nurses in some hospitals that provide medical services to foreigners or get well paid and respected jobs in some other countries, like Saudi Arabia or many Western countries, including Canada.
Many Registered Nurses who received their nursing education outside Canada will benefit from this program. Some would like to work as nurses and be much better paid in their own countries, working in some hospitals that provide medical services to foreigners. Others would like to get well paid and respected jobs in some other countries, like Saudi Arabia or Western countries, including Canada. For this purpose they have to take the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination (CRNE) through the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA and CRNBC). Some registered nurses who received their degrees in countries other than Canada are landed immigrants or Canadian residents but they have never taken CRNE and are not able to work as Registered Nurses in Canada. Their goal is to be better prepared and to pass CRNE successfully.
